Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

Antenna, signal, and installation

(8)
What's the Starlink antenna's coverage range?

The dish is the satellite signal pickup point - it does not define Wi-Fi range. Indoor distribution depends on the router chosen: the built-in router covers roughly 185 m2 in a typical environment; larger areas require mesh or enterprise access points.

Does Wi-Fi range depend on the client's router?

Yes. The standard router serves small offices. For warehouses, farms, hotels, or multiple floors, we recommend using the terminal in bypass mode (the antenna sends the signal directly to your router) connected to a corporate router/mesh (Cisco, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti, Aruba).

Do I need a clear line of sight to the sky?

Yes. Ideally, there should be ~100° of open sky above the antenna, free of obstructions from buildings, trees, or structures. Partial obstructions cause momentary micro-outages as satellites move.

Does the antenna work in heavy rain, snow, or wind?

Yes. Signal loss due to rain is small at the frequencies used by Starlink. Standard and Performance antennas have automatic heating to melt snow and ice and are certified for strong winds.

Can I install on a roof, mast, or vehicle?

It depends on the model. Mini and Standard support roof and pole mounts with official kits. The Mini also works on light vehicles (cars, SUVs, light trucks) and field teams with a compatible mobility plan. For continuous professional mobility (trucks, buses, vessels and 24x7 mission-critical use), Flat High Performance is recommended.

What is the electrical consumption of each model?

Mini: ~20–40 W (can operate with battery/12 V). Standard: 50–75 W typical use. Flat High Performance: 110–150 W. All accept AC power, and DC adapters are available for in-vehicle and off-grid use.

How does installation work?

Plug-and-play: point the terminal at the sky, connect power, and in a few minutes the antenna automatically aligns with the constellation.

Do you need local infrastructure?

Only electricity and clear sky view. No civil work, tower, or external cabling required.

Models and hardware

(6)
Does Starlink Mini come with a built-in router?

Yes. The Mini integrates a Wi-Fi 5 router into the terminal itself - no extra equipment needed for immediate use. For corporate networks with VLAN/VPN, it can be combined with an external router via Ethernet.

What's the difference between Mini, Standard, and Flat High Performance?

Mini: portable and lightweight, ideal for field work, contingency and light mobility (cars, SUVs, light trucks, field teams, events) with a compatible mobility plan. Standard: professional fixed terminal for offices, farms and branches. Flat High Performance: reinforced dish, built-in GPS and higher speed: recommended for continuous professional mobility (trucks, buses, vessels) and mission-critical use in harsh environments.

Can I use my own corporate router (Cisco, Mikrotik, Ubiquiti)?

Yes. All models support bypass mode via Ethernet adapter, delivering IP directly to your company router/firewall - preserving existing security policies, VLAN, QoS, and VPN configurations.

Does it support VLAN, site-to-site VPN and static IP?

Yes. With the Business plan in bypass mode, your network takes control: VLAN, IPSec/WireGuard VPN, and SD-WAN work normally. A public fixed IP is offered as an add-on for enterprise customers via Deutsche Telekom.

How many simultaneous devices can the standard router handle?

The built-in router easily supports 128+ connected devices. For high density (events, hotels, construction sites), we recommend bypass to a scaled corporate Wi-Fi infrastructure.

Works in motion?

Yes. The Mini supports light mobility (cars, SUVs, utility vehicles, field teams, events) with a compatible mobility plan. For continuous professional mobility (trucks, buses, vessels, 24x7 critical missions, and harsh environments), Flat High Performance is recommended.

Plan, performance and SLA

(4)
How does the data cap work?

You contract a monthly volume with full priority. Within the allowance, your connection has maximum network priority.

What happens after data plan consumption?

The connection remains active in standard mode, with no additional charges. Speed will vary based on network usage in the region.

Can it be used as a primary link?

Yes. It is approved as a primary link in many remote operations, with SLA managed by Deutsche Telekom.

Works in rural areas or where there's no fiber?

Yes - this is exactly the best-case scenario. The connection is fully independent of terrestrial infrastructure: all you need is power and a clear view of the sky, even in regions without fiber or cellular coverage.

Operation and support

(2)
What is the activation time?

Typically between 5 and 15 business days after order, depending on logistical availability and antenna model.

What about support?

Deutsche Telekom's 24/7 NOC, with technical escalation and proactive incident management.
